Description
Ryan can best be described as sweet and affectionate. He loves attention, and demands quite a great deal of it. He likes to be wherever people are, and hates to be alone. Unfortunately, this also means that he suffers from separation anxiety when left alone for too long. This is mostly a problem when we’re out of town and leave him in the care of someone else, and is not an issue when we’re running errands, going to work, etc. According to our neighbors, he will pace and pant at the window and bark for a bit. When really nervous, he has peed in the house, but that’s not often and only when we’ve been gone for days at a time.

He’s fantastic on a leash and loves his walks. In the car, he lays down quietly once he’s calmed down. He delights in laying on his bed outside when the weather is good.

He’s gentle with the cats, and I’ve even spotted the cats rubbing noses with him. Outside cats best beware! Anything outside is fair game with Ryan!

As for medical concerns, he broke his left rear hock in 2002. This has caused problems with arthritis and gives him a bit of a limp. Long walks are a no-go. During the winter months, he’ll often need Rimadyl to help with the discomfort. His mouth has also been an ongoing issue as he has gingivitis. We hope that a teeth cleaning will help with this.

I think that that covers everything. Ryan really is a great dog, very well-behaved. He just needs a calmer home.

She can spot a bird, squirrel, or cat quickly and immediately goes into stalking mode and barks. She is happiest one on one with her handler and enjoys long walks and playing catch or tug-o-war. Patty does not destroy her toys and can be left alone without concern. Patty will be a great companion and loyal friend.

Color is the class clown. She is very smart and shakes hands, rolls over, and speaks on command. She is rough on her toys pouncing on them and pulling all of the stuffing out within minutes! She is very vocal and likes to be the center of attention. Color will steal things when you are not looking and is very mischievous. She has no fear and loves to play all the time. Color gets excited easily and solicits affection, petting, & playing with everyone including the other dogs. She likes to dig when outside and will bark when she spots moving objects such as cats, birds, or squirrels. Color will be a great family dog and would be perfect with kids!

Dixie is a very sweet girl who loves to cuddle and loves hugs.  She enjoys being with people and and would do well in an active household that has older children (probably ages 8+) and other active dogs.  She has a lot of energy, loves playing with stuffies and enjoys the wading pool.  She loves to walk and does very well on the leash.  Her prey drive is at least a 3.  Sometimes seems too interested in the cats.

Goforit King Pop "King"

He is a very sweet boy and will lay his head gently on your knee or look at you with his puppy eyes when he wants pets.  When he first arrived at our home, he was very curious about our Siamese kitten.  He would follow with ears up and tail wagging until he was corrected by me or my own grey. He doesn’t pay much attention to the adult cats except when they tumble around playing and he gets up to see what the fuss is about.  He also enjoys treats and chewing up a stuffie or two that no one will own up to!  King is a very good boy, he just wants love.

Coal Camp Rita "Rita"

Active, playful, and friendly - that’s Rita.  At 55 lbs she’s a cute little peanut of a girl.  She has a foxy black face and a dark brindle coat with white toes.  She is very smart and knows her commands well—sit, stay, lay down, come, speak, shake and high 5.  She likes playing with anything that squeaks and all kinds of balls, especially tennis balls.  She loves being out in the yard playing, hunting squirrels, or just lying in the cool grass in the shade.  She enjoys being brushed and is ok with having her teeth brushed.  Bath times are scary and she has to be bribed to get in the tub, but once there she cooperates nicely.  She likes going on walks and riding in the car.  Rita’s house manners are excellent.  She doesn’t counter surf, doesn’t get on the furniture, and has never had an accident in the house.  She does not need to be crated.  She is friendly to everyone she meets.  She’s an all around good family dog.

Hickory is a fun girl, and can be the leader of the pack at times.  She is not a shy dog.  According to her inmate handler she loves to play and run and is a quick learner.  She will probably do best in an active household with children and other medium to large size dogs, but not with cats or other small animals.  Like a new car, she’s a real beauty, has a nice, sleek look and can go 0 to 40 mph in just a few seconds!

I'll Be A Star "Kendrick"

His foster parents just love him.  He’s such a happy boy; loves meeting people (including small children), loves meeting other dogs, loves attention, loves treats (and works for them), loves food, loves walks, loves running around like a madman, loves lounging in the grass, LOVES squeaky toys…they believe there’s nothing he doesn’t love.  He’s just fantastic.  He does air snaps when he’s excited, though occasionally he catches a finger or a shirt, and it can hurt!

Fuzz Face Mule "Mule"

Mule loves to play with his brother Marshall.  However, he is not quite as fast and energetic as Marshall.  He would rather be the center of your attention and have you brush or play with him.  He likes to be around people, loves to go for walks and is very good at his commands.  Once he feels comfortable with you he will follow you like a shadow.  Mule comes when called and has just mastered shaking his paw on command.  Mule will jump up and down in front of you when he wants you to play.  He stands his ground in strange situations and has a tendency to “kill” his toys.  Mule acts fearful in unfamiliar situations or when strangers approach.  Over the last month we have taken Marshall out of his “comfort” zone.  He has a busy day now as several of the staff take him throughout the day to various areas of the institution to help him conquer his fears.  He has really shown improvement.

Paco

Paco is a very laid back, well-behaved dog who loves to play outside.  He’s very loving and has a great personality and he shows no interest in cats.  He knows the verbal commands Sit, Down, Come, Heal and Shake.  His inmate handler says he gets excited when he wants to go outside when asked ‘you want to go out?’  He is a great dog and will make a good addition to someone’s home.

Mr. Squidward "Squid"

Squid is very energetic and would be a good dog for an active family.  He knows his commands very well and is completely housebroken.  He speaks to you when he wants to go out, play or just to get a scratch behind the ear.  Squid is very protective, and we believe he would protect his family when in danger; this is rare since greyhounds generally do not make good watchdogs.  He is big, strong, soft, warm and loves to cuddle up and have his tummy rubbed. Squid likes to show dominance to other dogs, but never shows aggression towards his humans.  He would do best as an “only” dog.  This big puppy of a dog just wants to be with his people, whether it’s going for a walk, riding around in the car doing errands, or stretching out on the floor while you watch T.V.

Fuzz Face Marshall "Marshall"

Marshall is the “Valedictorian” of the LorCI class of 2009-2010.  He is a very fast learner and really shows a desire to please his handlers.  He is also very devoted to them and shows them a lot of attention and affection!  We have been working on separation exercises with Marshall because once you are his friend he does not want to leave your side as he does not like to be alone.  Marshall is definitely a “people person.”  He shows no food aggression, does well on stairs and in crowded places.  He likes to be groomed and is receptive to his toe nail trimmings & ear cleanings.  We recommend “tough toys” as he likes to eat the stuffing or squeakers out of plush toys.  He also gets excited at the sight of wildlife and other moving objects.

PTL Jubal "Jubal"

Jubal, or sometimes known as “Horse” because of his size, is very calm, cool & collected!  Don’t let his quiet indoor demeanor fool you though!  When he is outside he loves to play, catch his ball, and have his belly rubbed!  He knows his commands well but would rather lie down than sit.  He prefers to play with people as opposed to other dogs.  He can be territorial when he is in the door to his room by responding with a growl as other dogs pass by.  He eats very slowly and at times does not finish his entire morning feeding.  Jubal trembles when he is nervous and may act reluctant to try new things.  With a slow approach and patience he overcomes his fears.  He does not appear to get excited at moving objects indoors or outdoors.  Jubal would prefer to stretch out and nap under a shade tree!

EB Q The Band "Band"

Band loves all the dog beds.  You can always find him on one.  He recently discovered toys;  any squeaky toy in the house his mouth has been on.  He reminds his foster parent of a child that is discovering life but he doesn’t want to get in trouble.  He is getting very comfortable and is doing great in the house.  He is going to make someone an excellent pet.  He is young and has had no accidents in the house.

Coal Camp Coslo "Coslo"

Coslo is a beautiful, yet goofy brindle boy. He LOVES playing in the snow and truly enjoys playing with his stuffed animals and his tennis ball.  He also enjoys getting his belly rubbed in which he will flip completely over to his back and show his smile because he loves it so! He is not necessarily fond of bath time or really loud noises, but has adjusted nicely to our three young children (who can be really loud!) Cosie has never had an accident in our house and has really taken a liking to our greyhound Buddy.  I think he would work great in a household who also have a dog as well.  Coslo is not cat safe and has never been around a cat without being on a leash (doesn’t lunge at them on leash, just stops in his tracks and gets fixated).  His hobbies include squirrel chasing, sleeping, cuddling (will snuggle up tight next to you and give you kisses!), sneaking in my bed and stealing my clothes and boots!!!  He’s a hoot and he gets me laughing everyday!  He is a big cuddle bug.

Kemosabbe

Kemo is doing great. He has fit right in. He gets all excited when we are around. Loves to go for rides. He looks forward to going to the dog park, especially Sunday mornings when we have about a dozen greyhounds running around.

He loves to run with them but we have learned to make him take a time-out. He just wears himself out but keeps going until he almost falls over.
He has put on enough weight that he looks good.

Bess is a beautiful easy going girl with a great personality.  She does well with any greyhound and is terribly fond of naps and treats!  She is amazing in how well she has learned her commands and walks so well on a leash.  But then she sees a kitty…or a squirrel…or a bird on the ground…and she goes into a freeze, all a quiver with excitement, and she wants nothing in the world more than to chase that animal!  Too funny!  So, you have to be aware her eyesight and prey drive is AMAZING and she will keep you entertained.  She is such a love bug, too!

Caesar is a happy guy who is a little shy with loud, forceful strangers, but has the curiosity of a puppy, and will make his way over to you to sniff you and check you out.  The next thing you know, he is giving you a wet nose and letting you scratch his head!  He would be fine as an only pet, or one of a laid back pack. Desire
